Tekst za pesmu „Be yourself“ napisao je Chris Cornell, dok su muziku komponovali svi članovi grupe Audioslave. Objavljena je kao singl početkom februara 2005. godine, najavljujući njihov drugi album „Out of exile“ (na kome je i „Doesn’t remind me“, još jedan njihov veliki hit). Na svakom od, nažalost, samo tri snimljena albuma za pet godina zajedničkog rada, nalaze se pesme koje su svojim kvalitetom zaslužile da ostanu trajno zabeležene u istoriji rok muzike. Jedna od njih je i „Be yourself“.
