Bruce Springsteen je najavio svoj novi studijski album „Only the strong survive“. Na njemu će se naći obrade poznatih pesama, uglavnom vezane za soul muziku i ritam i bluz šezdesetih i sedamdesetih godina prošlog veka. Snimili su ih The Commodores, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Dianna Ross & The Supremes, Frankie Valli, Jimmy Ruffin, Ben E. King, Jerry Butler, William Bell… Pojaviće se 11. novembra.
Ovo je prvi album na kome Springsteen nema svoju autorsku pesmu. Na svim njegovim prethodnim pločama, bio je autor skoro svih pesama (sa retkim izuzecima koji se mogu izbrojati na prste). Iako je popularno u novom milenijumu objavljivati cover albume, i njega to nije mimoišlo. Ali sigurno nije upao u običan „modni kliše“. Sam naziv albuma „Only the strong survive“, izabran po prvoj pesmi na njemu, posveta je muzičarima i autorima koji su napisali i otpevali originalne verzije. Evo šta je Bruce izjavio u najavi albuma: „I wanted to make an album where I just sang. And what better music to work with than the great American songbook of the ’60s and ’70s? I’ve taken my inspiration from Levi Stubbs, David Ruffin, Jimmy Ruffin, the Iceman Jerry Butler, Diana Ross, Dobie Gray, and Scott Walker, among many others. I’ve tried to do justice to them all—and to the fabulous writers of this glorious music. My goal is for the modern audience to experience its beauty and joy, just as I have since I first heard it.
